• Trying FeedBin again

When Google Reader first shut down I experimented with several of the nascent feed reader platforms, shortlisting to Feed Wrangler and FeedBin. Ultimately it was close, but I chose Feed Wrangler.

I’ve been a happy user of that platform, but lately I’ve been giving FeedBin a try again – partly out of curiosity, and partly because of the upcoming Evergreen app, which will support FeedBin for feed synching from version 1.

I almost exclusively use feed reader apps to consume my RSS feeds, and then almost exclusively Reeder on macOS, iPad and iPhone. So I was firstly really impressed with how far the web interface for Feedbin has come. By contrast, Feed Wrangler’s hasn’t evolved much over the years.

Synching through Reeder is every bit as smooth in FeedBin, with the added advantage of more elegant handling of title-less posts (such as many Micro.blog) posts.

I will continue to play around, but have to say I am very impressed with FeedBin.

  • Blogging Setup 2018

Like a lot of people here, the new year brings an opportunity to reevaluate my blogging and social setup.

I’ve decided to make my micro.blog account my main personal blog for thoughts, links, etc.

My BalancedLight blog is going to be focused on photography and exploration.

I’ve taken the step of disabling automatic cross-posting to micro.blog from BalancedLight, at least for now. My intention is to adopt mindful cross-posting, so I will make this a manual step for posts that warrant a cross post.

I will continue cross-posting from micro.blog to Twitter, and micro.blog will continue to be the origin of (essentially) all of my posting to Twitter.

I am not planning to give on Twitter – yet. But I will post here on micro.blog, and consume content and reply over there. I’d like to see that phase out as more and more adopters move over to micro.blog.

That’s where my thinking is for now. I am sure it will continue to evolve.

  • 100th Issue of UwP Mag

The original web-based underwater photography magazine, UwP Mag has reached a major milestone with its 100th issue being published.

Well done to Peter Rowlands and all involved for this magnificent achievement.

I had an article about The PLACEBO Principle published way back in issue no. 8.

Its been a couple of years since I made underwater photos, but it is something I am planning to get back into this year. UwP 100 is spurring me on!
